Pune, July 15, 2026: A newly asphalted road in Pune’s Warje area caved in, trapping a truck and raising fresh concerns over the quality of civic infrastructure works undertaken by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Following the incident, Shiv Sena has demanded that the contractor responsible for the road be blacklisted and that all development works executed by the contractor undergo an independent technical audit.

Shiv Sena Pune City Chief Pramod Bhangire alleged that the incident reflects serious lapses in quality control, technical supervision, and the monitoring of civic projects. Sharing a video of the collapsed road on social media, he claimed that roads in Pune are deteriorating within days of completion, pointing to a similar incident reported earlier in the Hadapsar area.

According to Shiv Sena, such incidents are no longer isolated and indicate a recurring pattern of substandard development works across the city. The party alleged that poor-quality construction not only endangers public safety but also results in the wasteful expenditure of taxpayers’ money.

Speaking on the issue, Bhangire said that roads are built using public funds but collapse shortly after completion, forcing the civic body to spend crores of rupees on repairs. He alleged that contractors executing poor-quality work appear to enjoy administrative protection and demanded accountability from PMC officials responsible for approving projects and certifying their quality.

Shiv Sena has urged the PMC not to limit the matter to a routine inquiry. It has demanded that all pending and final payments to the contractor be withheld until the investigation is completed. If found guilty, the contractor should be immediately blacklisted, the party said.

The party also called for an independent technical audit of all road and development projects previously executed by the contractor. It has sought a detailed examination of construction quality, materials used, compliance with contract specifications, road thickness and strength, quality test reports, and the present condition of completed works.

In addition, Shiv Sena has called for reforms in the PMC’s tendering process to improve transparency and accountability. It recommended stricter scrutiny of contractors’ past performance, technical qualifications, financial capability, and quality records before awarding contracts. The party also advocated mandatory third-party quality inspections, laboratory testing, stage-wise technical verification, and effective enforcement of the Defect Liability Period for all civic projects.

The party has urged PMC Commissioner Nawal Kishore Ram to order a high-level inquiry into the incident, fix responsibility on the contractor and officials overseeing quality control, initiate strict action against those found guilty, and conduct a comprehensive technical audit of ongoing and recently completed development works across Pune.

Shiv Sena warned that if strict action is not taken against those responsible for compromising public safety and wasting public funds through substandard works, it will launch a widespread public agitation in support of Pune residents.
