Police hunt for trainee IAS officer Puja Khedkar’s parents in farmer threat case

After an FIR was registered against the parents of trainee IAS officer Puja Khedkar for allegedly threatening a farmer, Pune Rural Police reported on Monday that the accused are evading capture. They have also switched off their phones. 

Dilip and Manorama Khedkar, parents of probationary IAS officer Puja Khedkar, are among seven individuals accused of threatening a farmer in Mulshi taluka, Pune district. Five other people also with Dilip and Manorama Khedkar, the probationary IAS officer’s parents, have been booked for allegedly threatening a farmer.

Police Stated “Several teams, including officials from the local crime branch and local police stations, are searching for them in Pune and nearby places with some farmhouses and residences. When found, we will question them and take action accordingly,” stated an officer.

In a viral video recorded in June 2023, Manorama Khedkar was seen brandishing a firearm and purportedly threatening villagers. The accused face charges under sections 323, 504, 506, 143, 144, 147, 148, and 149 of the Indian Penal Code, along with sections 3 (25) of the Arms Act.

Through their lawyer, the family claims the firearm was used in self-defense to prevent further escalation of the argument and that they have all valid permissions for the weapon.

The investigation continues as authorities intensify their search for the accused.
