Mumbai, July 8, 2025 – Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed the Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department to take immediate action on the demand to include seven villages from Mulshi and Maval talukas into the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) limits for their planned and sustainable development.
Chinchwad MLA Shankar Jagtap submitted an official memorandum regarding this demand to CM Fadnavis and Deputy CM and Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde. Shiv Sena MP Shrirang Barne was also present during the meeting with Deputy CM Shinde. Acting promptly on the memorandum, CM Fadnavis instructed the Urban Development Department to initiate necessary procedures, while Deputy CM Shinde ordered the department to prepare and present a proposal on the matter.
The demand to merge these villages—Hinjawadi, Man, Marunji, Nere, Jambe (Mulshi taluka), Sangavade, and Gahunje (Maval taluka)—into the PCMC limits dates back to 2018 when the civic body passed a resolution and sent a revised proposal to the state government. However, no decision has been taken yet.
Why Is This Merger Being Demanded?
Due to the Rajiv Gandhi IT Park, the area has witnessed large-scale IT and industrial development.
A significant population of IT professionals and migrants has settled in these villages.
The combined floating population of these seven villages has crossed approximately 2 lakh.
This rapid growth has strained basic amenities such as roads, water supply, drainage, waste management, healthcare, and transport infrastructure.
A lack of coordination between various government agencies has resulted in stalled development projects.
Benefits of Inclusion in PCMC
1. Planned and sustainable development under unified urban administration.
2. Faster and more coordinated decision-making.
3. Concrete solutions to traffic congestion.
4. Availability of essential civic amenities in one jurisdiction.
5. Enhanced support for industries and the IT sector.
6. Increased revenue for the government.
MLA Jagtap expressed confidence that with the positive response from both the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, this long-pending demand will soon materialize.
“The development of these areas has gone beyond the capacity of gram panchayats. To provide citizens with basic amenities and ensure planned urbanization, it is essential to urgently merge these villages into PCMC limits.”
