Pune News : Dairy processing unit to come up at land reserved for playground in Katraj; MNS opposes
The land reserved for a playground on about three and a half hectares at the rear side of Katraj Dairy will now be used as a dairy processing unit.
The proposal to appoint Pune District Milk Producers Co-operative Union Limited as the authority for this reservation, seeking objections and suggestions from the citizens, has been approved in the past months.
As per information from a letter from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) dated December 20 2023, states that as per the instructions given by the Government, to cancel the reservation for playground on the 3.59 hectares land in Katraj, to reserve the said land for the purpose of dairy processing & to appoint the Pune District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited as the appropriate authority for it, a public notice had been given to seek suggestions, objections, comments etc from the citizens.
Survey No 132 & Survey No 133 in Katraj are reserved for a playground in the development plan on about 3.59 hectares (around 9 acres) of land adjacent to the Pune District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Association. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had given a letter about removing this reservation and reserving that space for the purpose of dairy processing. It has also been suggested that the Pune District Cooperative Milk Producers Association should be appointed as the appropriate authority for the said reservation.
However, MNS Pune City President Vasant More has objected to these plans as he says that where will children play if the reservation for dairy processing takes place on the land?
Vasant More said in a Facebook post “We don’t want a dairy processing unit, children want a playground to play. I will not allow the state government and PMC to lift the reservation of the playground on the 9-acre land near Katraj Dairy. At around 5:00 pm on January 4 (Thursday), we are taking a signature campaign against this. Hence, please come to Sarhad Chowk near Katraj Dairy to express your objections.”
