With Diwali just three weeks away, there is a surge in demand for sending festive treats to friends and family abroad through post offices. Ramchandra Jayabhaye, the postmaster general for the Pune region, mentioned that residents do not need to visit post offices in person. Instead, citizens in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad can arrange for the collection of Diwali faral parcels from their homes by calling the post office. Major post offices in the city are equipped to provide packing services to ensure smooth delivery.

Jayabhaye made these remarks during the World Post Day celebration on Wednesday, where a consumer meeting was held at Hotel Aurora Towers, covering the Pune, Satara, Solapur, and Ahmednagar regions. He noted that last year, the postal department achieved a record by sending 7,500 kg of faral abroad from Pune during Diwali and anticipates an even higher volume this year. Key post offices, including Pune City District Post Office, Pune City Main Post Office, Chinchwad East, Market Yard, and Parvati, have packing facilities for the faral. To assist those who may not have the time to visit the post office, residents can call 9834482105 or 7028007235 from 9 am to 7 pm for a free pickup service until Diwali, as stated by Nagesh Dukre, deputy manager of business development for India Post in the Pune region.

Jayabhaye mentioned that more citizens are using the service to send letters and parcels abroad through nine parcel units and Dak Niryat Kendras in the Pune area. He noted that companies are increasingly choosing the postal department for bulk mail. Additionally, new Digital Postal Index Numbers (DIGIPIN) are being created to connect physical locations with their digital counterparts. There are plans to establish new post offices in Ambegaon Budruk, Pimple Saudagar, Kondhwa, Charholi, and Shivne, as well as new delivery centers in Hadapsar, Parvati, and Bavdhan. An integrated transhipment center will also be set up at the Khadki post office, combining various postal services under one roof.
