A 38 year old woman from Kalepadal lost Rs.9.75 in June by becoming a victim of cyber hoax while trying to sell her home temple on an online marketplace. Inspector (crime) Nilesh Jagdale of Hadapsar Police Station revealed the scam began after she posted her interest in selling her home temple for 4,000 Rs. In addition, the culprit sent her a QR code and transferred a small amount of Rs. 2 in her bank account then requested a nominal transfer of Rs.5,000 from the woman to build a “money transaction link.” The crook claimed that he had been using a current account and the money would be sent to her accompanied by the payment for the home temple.The crook gained the woman’s confidence through sending  her a video and asking to follow certain instructions while manipulating her. As she tried to recover her money, she was persuaded to make several payments as additional transfers. After the loss of Rs.9.75 lakh, the woman realized she had been scammed by the hoax and became a victim of cyber robbery. 

As per following the incident the woman lodged a complaint on Central Government’s Cyber Portal. She has registered with the City’s cyber crime police,who recorded her statement and conducted an inquiry. After verifying the details, the cyber crime police handover the issue to the Hadapsar Police Station. A formal complaint has now been registered and the authorities are alarmed and further investigating in the case.
