Pune News: Man booked for duping 5 women with false job promises
Pune: The Warje Malwadi police are currently on the lookout for a man accused of duping five women of Rs 90,000 each by promising them teaching positions in his coaching class.
According to reports, one of the victims, a 27-year-old woman, filed a complaint with the police on Wednesday, revealing that she had approached the man on March 8 this year after seeing an advertisement for female teachers for a coaching class located in Ramnagar, Warje Malwadi.
“The woman stated that the individual, claiming to be the owner of the coaching class, interviewed her and informed her that she would need to undergo training before officially joining as a teacher,” explained an officer involved in the case.
Subsequently, the complainant, along with four other women, underwent a similar interview process. However, on May 8, the owner allegedly instructed them to travel to Nashik and hand over Rs 9 lakh to an individual there. “He instructed all of them to remove their gold jewelry and cellphones before leaving,” the officer added.
Upon reaching Nashik, the women discovered that the address provided to them was fake. Furthermore, the bag they were instructed to deliver contained only old newspapers instead of the promised cash. One of the women happened to have an extra cellphone with her and attempted to contact the owner, but his phone was turned off.
Following their return to Warje, the women found the classroom locked, and the owner was nowhere to be found. “We have registered a case of cheating, and our investigation is ongoing,” stated the officer.
The case highlights the importance of vigilance and thorough verification before engaging in transactions involving significant sums of money, especially in situations where promises of lucrative opportunities are made.
