Pune News: PCMC Cracks Down On Pavana River Pollution; Units Sealed, ₹30 Lakh Collected In Fines
Pimpri, December 5, 2025: To curb pollution in the Pavana River, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) Environment Department has launched an extensive survey and enforcement drive. After foam was observed on the river surface near Kejudevi Bandhara in Thergaon, dedicated nuisance-detection teams immediately began detailed inspections in Tathawade, Punawale, Walhekarwadi and Ravet.
During the survey, information is being collected on illegal and non-compliant small industries and establishments responsible for discharging pollutants into the river. Strict action has already begun against the offenders. On November 22, 2025, the Rukhsana Dry Cleaners unit in Walhekarwadi was sealed.
Earlier surveys had revealed two laundry/dry-cleaning units in Tathawade and Walhekarwadi responsible for river pollution. Both establishments were sealed and criminal cases have been filed against the owners.

Additionally, nuisance-detection teams found illegal dumping and filling activities in the Pavana riverbed in Ravet, Kalewadi and Pimple Gurav. As a result, offences have been registered against eight landowners and three vehicle drivers. So far, fines amounting to approximately ₹30 lakh have been collected from vehicles involved in illegal riverbed filling, according to Municipal Chief Engineer Sanjay Kulkarni.
Sharing more details about the ongoing campaign, he said, “PCMC’s nuisance-detection teams are conducting detailed surveys, and immediate action is being taken against individuals or units responsible for pollution. Penalties, sealing of units and filing of criminal cases are being carried out consistently against those releasing untreated wastewater or waste into the riverbed. Even stricter enforcement will follow, as the Environment Department is fully committed to controlling pollution.”
