Pimpri, Pune | June 27, 2025:
The Pimpri Merchant Federation has strongly opposed the proposed road widening under the newly released Draft Development Plan (DP) by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), citing threats to local businesses and potential displacement of long-standing traders.

Federation president Shrichand Aswani submitted a formal objection to the PCMC administration, highlighting that the plan adversely affects Sindhi and other communities who have been settled in the Pimpri Camp area since 1947. Traders fear the new development could jeopardize their livelihoods and force them to vacate their premises.

In the objection letter, the Federation also demanded that Pimpri Camp be officially declared a “Gaothan” (village settlement) to ensure basic services and protections.

Prominent traders including Suresh Sharma, Jagdish Aswani, Akash Bajaj, Saval Totani, Neeraj Chawla, Ramesh Jadhwani, Deepak Sonaji, Arjun Melvani, Jayaram Nagdev, Sunil Hingorani, Ravi Gorwani, and Avi Tejwani were present during the submission.

The Federation raised specific objections to proposed changes on key internal roads such as:

  • Sai Chowk (Shani Mandir to Vaishno Devi Mandir) to Lal Bahadur Shastri Udyan
  • Sai Chowk to Bhatnagar Chowk
  • Railway Station (Sai Baba Mandir – Kranti Rickshaw Stand) to Late Kimtaram Aswani Underpass
  • Lal Bahadur Shastri Udyan to Sadhu Vaswani Road
  • Lal Bahadur Shastri Udyan to Ashok Theatre
  • Ashok Theatre to Tapovan Mandir Road
  • Kalewadi Bridge (near Pavana River) to Pawneshwar Mandir Bridge
  • River Road (SBI) to Milind Nagar
  • Deluxe Theatre Road to 9-meter road stretch
  • Ravi Society to Ashok Theatre

Traders insisted that these roads remain as-is, without any widening, to avoid disruption to homes and businesses. They urged the PCMC to cancel implementation of the current DP in the Pimpri Camp area and recognize the long-standing demand for Gaothan status to ensure justice and security for local residents and traders.
