In an effort to reduce traffic congestion, the civic administration has begun work on a plan to widen the portion of Mundhwa Road that runs ahead of North Main Road and towards Tadigutta Chowk and the passport office.

Due to the increase in vehicle traffic, the 18-meter-wide, four-lane road currently in use frequently experiences traffic jams.

In order to widen roads in the area, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has started surveys to determine how much land will be needed. It is also in talks with the defense administration and the forest department to allocate land from their respective jurisdictions.

According to PMC officials, the organization has asked the defense department to designate a special investigator to examine the proposal concerning land. The forest department and the defense administration have responded favourably to the Pune Municipal Corporation’s request to turn over the land. For improved traffic flow, the left turn at the Kalyani Nagar bridge is also being widened. The widening stretch has already seen the start of construction.

In order to help move traffic more quickly, daily commuters on the stretch suggested that the municipal administration add at least one lane on each side.

According to a frequent commuter from Koregaon Park to Mundhwa, the area between Army Sports Institute and Mundhwa Chowk has become incredibly chaotic. Due to the numerous constructions on both sides of the road, trucks transporting cement and building materials are constantly in motion. It takes a long time for people to cross the stretch.

The two railway crossings along the alternate route via Ghorpadi are also making it ineffective.
