Pune, June 24, 2026: Residents of NIBM Annexe in Mohammadwadi and surrounding localities have once again raised alarm over the continuous discharge of dirty drainage water behind Ganga Kingston Society, a problem that has remained unresolved for nearly two years despite repeated complaints and follow-ups with civic authorities.

The stagnant and flowing sewage water has created unbearable stench, mosquito breeding grounds, and serious health concerns for hundreds of families living in the vicinity. Residents have now alleged that the persistent drainage overflow is also contaminating the society’s utility water supply, raising fears of serious health consequences and water-borne diseases.

According to residents, the polluted water flowing close to utility water infrastructure has become a major concern, particularly during the monsoon when overflowing drains and waterlogging increase the risk of contamination. Families fear that prolonged exposure to contaminated water could pose significant risks to children, senior citizens, and domestic workers.

Raj Singh, resident activist, said:

“This is not merely a drainage issue anymore—it has evolved into a serious public health emergency. Residents are now worried that sewage contamination is affecting the society’s utility water supply. For nearly two years, authorities have ignored repeated complaints while citizens continue to live amidst foul smell, mosquitoes, and the constant fear of disease.”

Ashok Mehendale, civic activist, said:

“If utility water is getting contaminated because of unchecked sewage discharge, the issue goes far beyond inconvenience. It becomes a matter of public safety. The administration cannot continue to treat this as a routine complaint when residents are raising concerns about possible contamination and health hazards.”

Jaymala Dhankikar, citizen leader, said:

“Women and children bear the brunt of such civic failures. Residents are deeply worried about the quality of water being used for daily household purposes. Two years of inaction despite repeated representations reflects a disturbing lack of urgency towards citizens’ health and wellbeing.”

Danish Khan, local resident representative, said, “Residents are paying maintenance charges, property taxes and water charges, yet they are forced to live next to an open sewage channel. The possibility of utility water contamination has heightened anxiety among families. The administration must explain why this issue has remained unresolved for such a long period.”

Residents have demanded immediate inspection of the drainage network and water infrastructure in the area, stating that the continued discharge of sewage water and the risk of contamination represent a serious threat to public health and environmental safety.
