Pune News:Â Residents Threaten Election Boycott Over Construction Ban Near Shaniwarwada, Pataleshwar TempleÂ

Draft Ward Plan Released for Upcoming Rural Body Elections in Pune; Suggestions Accepted Till July 21
Citizens of Kasba Peth, Shaniwarwada and Jangli Maharaj road areas are taking a bold stance against the central government’s construction ban within 100 meters of historical Shaniwarwada and Pataleswar temple. The restriction, aimed at preserving these ‘A’ category archaeological sites, has severely limited development in the densely populated areas, affecting numerous residents.
Around 100 old mansions in the area are either dilapidated or on the verge of collapse, yet no repairs or construction can be undertaken due to the central government’s regulations. Despite consistent appeals by the Shaniwarwada Action Committee to MLAs, MPs, corporators, Municipal Commissioners, and Collectors, the issue remains unresolved, with responsibility being shifted to the central government.
According to a report in Loksatta, Anupama Mujumdar of the Shaniwarwada Action Committee announced that approximately one lakh citizens will boycott the upcoming elections, citing the government’s neglect of the ‘Kasabya’ region’s development. Mujumdar emphasized that without development, there will be no votes, highlighting the committee’s frustration with unfulfilled promises.
The Shaniwarwada Action Committee’s decision reflects growing discontent among citizens tired of empty promises and inaction. As the election approaches, it remains to be seen how the government will respond to these concerns.
