Pune : A delivery boy of a food delivery app, along with others, beat up the security guard of the Parkland Society in Balewadi on December 10 (Sunday).
Speaking to Pune Pulse, Shraddha Kamthe, security in-charge, The Parkland Society, Balewadi said, “On Sunday (December 10), at around 9:45 pm, a delivery person had come. The society has an online entry system which first asks the flat owner to give permission so that a person can enter the society. However, starting from the COVID-19 period, our society doesn’t allow any delivery person etc, to take their vehicles inside. We ask them to park their vehicles near the security area itself. On Sunday, the delivery person entered the society in the same manner. Thus, the security guard asked the delivery person to park his vehicle near the security area. But the delivery person got angry & started arguing with the guard, saying that how can you not allow them to take vehicles inside? Other societies don’t follow this etc. However, the security guard instructed him to park the vehicle near the security area itself. Then, the delivery person delivered food to the concerned flat owner & came back. Within some time, he called up some other people & all of them threatened the security guard to come out. Seeing so many people, the guard got terrified & did not go out. So, they came inside & started beating the guard. The guard’s head has been injured due to some sharp object. A person saw this & asked them to stop beating the guard, then they stopped & went away. Now, we have stopped letting delivery vehicles enter society altogether. We tell them to leave the concerned thing near the security from outside.”
Ramesh Rokade, Balewadi Residents Forum, said “A delivery boy came with a parcel. The security personnel at the gate told him to park the motorcycle there and enter. This made the boy angry. He threatened that we are villagers and no one can stop us. Then, along with a gang, he beat up the security guard. They must have had a chain in their hands, which caused severe injuries to the security personnel’s head. Bullying by delivery boys is increasing in Balewadi. Societies make certain rules regarding parking and entry. The delivery boys refuse to comply and the security personnel abuse, threaten and beat them. This has happened in some societies before. Tired of this type and for security reasons, some societies have banned the delivery boys from entering and have made rules to deliver at the gate itself. Due to this, the residents are suffering.”
Rajkumar Kendre, assistant Police Inspector, Chatushringi Police Station said, “An NC (Non-Cognizable) complaint has been filed against the delivery person. Further investigation will begin in the case shortly.”
As per further information from the NC copy accessed by Pune Pulse, the accused is identified as Santosh Dalvi. The NC has been filed against Dalvi under Sections 323, 504, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
