Team Swachh Kalyani Nagar a highly active Trust that addresses various civics issues that affect a safe and peaceful life in the neighborhood celebrated Gandhí Jayanti with the school children of the Erin Nagarwala School and a few representatives from the Bishop’s School Kalyani Nagar – the future citizens of our country. They were told about the importance of being citizens and participating in keeping our roads safe for pedestrians and other vehicles on the road by following traffic rules and signs, keeping the cleanliness in the neighbourhood and the city and reaching out to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) staff to address issues of road safety and cleanliness.

The group conducted a walk along Central Avenue highlighting the need for proper footpaths that should not be used for parking. A brief cleanliness drive was conducted on the road with gloves and masks and were given a feel of what it means to hold the broom and clean the roads so that they know the importance of the job of our safai karmacharis. The Team as volunteers of the scrap band Band Baja De along with others sang a song on good civic and traffic behaviour.

Present at the short and sweet function was the PMC Ward Officer, Sanitation Inspector Mr Gham along with the staff of the sanitation department. Sandip addressed the sçhool children and the teachers and thanked them for their participation in the event.   The event ended with a quiz for children on road safety signs after which light snacks and sweets were shared with all. Team Swachh Kalyani Nagar was grateful to the management of Erin Nagarwala and Bishop’s Schools for encouraging participation of their school children in the programme.
