Pimpri Chinchwad, June 2, 2025 — In a significant crackdown, the Property Crime Anti-Team of Pimpri Chinchwad Crime Branch has arrested three habitual criminals involved in illegal arms trafficking and seized a cache of firearms and ammunition worth ₹8.76 lakh. The action comes under the directives of top police officials to curb the spread of illegal firearms and terror activities in the city.

Acting on a tip-off, police constables Ganesh Sawant, Sumit Devkar, and Vinod Veer received information that three individuals in a grey Maruti Suzuki Ciaz without a number plate were roaming the Talegaon Dabhade area carrying pistols. Following swift action, the anti-property crime unit, led by Senior PI Vijay Dhamal and his team, intercepted the suspects on the old Pune-Mumbai highway near Talegaon Dabhade.

The arrested individuals have been identified as:

  1. Umesh Chandrakant Kedari (28), resident of Punawale, Mulshi, Pune
  2. Manthan alias Guddu Ashok Satkar (28), resident of Kanhe, Maval, Pune
  3. Vishal Jyotiram Khanekar (30), resident of Mohitewadi, Maval, Pune

From the suspects, police seized:

  • 5 country-made pistols
  • 20 live rounds
  • 2 empty magazines
  • 3 mobile phones
  • A Maruti Suzuki Ciaz car

An FIR (No. 118/2025) has been registered at Talegaon Dabhade Police Station under Sections 3, 5, 25 of the Indian Arms Act and Section 37(1) read with 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act. The trio has been remanded to police custody till June 4, 2025.

Initial investigation indicates that the accused were in possession of the arms with the intent to instill fear and for illegal sale. Background checks revealed:

  • Umesh Kedari has four prior cases, including one for murder
  • Manthan Satkar is involved in three cases, including attempted murder
  • Vishal Khanekar has two previous cases related to bodily harm

The successful operation was executed under the guidance of Commissioner of Police Vinaykumar Choubey, Joint Commissioner Shashikant Mahavarkar, Additional Commissioner Sarang Awad, DCP (Crime) Sandeep Doifode, and ACP (Crime 1) Vishal Hire.
