Pune: Only Two Days Remaining For PMC’s Amnesty Scheme; Record ₹49.15 Crore Property Tax Collected In One Day
Pune Municipal Corporation General Body Turns Down 5% Property Tax Increase Proposal
Pune, January 13, 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) Tax Assessment and Collection Department has reported a significant surge in property tax recovery under the ongoing ‘Abhay Scheme’, which offers major relief to defaulters on penalties and fines.
According to PMC officials, a large number of residential, non-residential, and open-plot properties within municipal limits have accumulated property tax arrears over the years due to non-payment. Under the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, Chapter 8, Rule 41, a 2% monthly penalty is levied on outstanding property tax dues, leading to a substantial increase in arrears.
To address this issue, the Municipal Commissioner announced the ‘Abhay Scheme’, granting a 75% waiver on penalties and fines for all property tax defaulters in the PMC jurisdiction. The scheme has been in effect from 15 November 2025 to 15 January 2026.
With focused efforts by the Tax Assessment and Collection Department to maximise recovery, the scheme has delivered remarkable results. On 12 January 2026, PMC recorded a single-day collection of ₹49.15 crore under the Abhay Scheme. As of today, the total property tax collection has reached ₹2,358.10 crore.
For comparison, the total property tax collected up to 31 March 2025 stood at ₹2,345.90 crore. While last year’s scheme was implemented for four months, this year’s Abhay Scheme has achieved exceptional results within a shorter duration. Even before completing two months, PMC has collected an additional ₹574.79 crore during the scheme period.
With three days still remaining before the scheme concludes, PMC has appealed to all remaining defaulters to clear their outstanding dues and take advantage of the 75% concession on the 2% penalty amount.
To facilitate taxpayers, Citizen Facilitation Centres will remain open from 9:45 am to 6:00 pm, ensuring convenient access for property owners to complete their payments within the remaining period.
