Pune Petrol Pump Found Supplying 80% Water Instead of Petrol, Vehicles Break Down
Pune: A shocking case of fuel adulteration has emerged in Pimpri-Chinchwad, where a petrol pump in Shahunagar was found dispensing fuel mixed with 80% water. The incident has caused multiple vehicles to break down shortly after refueling, raising serious concerns over fuel quality and consumer safety.
Vehicles Stalled After Refueling
Motorists who refueled at Bhosale Petrol Pump (operated by Hindustan Petroleum) reported engine failures soon after. Even those who had filled just one or two liters of fuel experienced sudden breakdowns. Upon inspection, some customers drained their fuel tanks and were alarmed to find a liquid mixture primarily composed of water, with only a small amount of petrol floating on top. Reports suggest the contamination ratio was as high as 80% water to 20% petrol.
Possible Cause: Water Seepage into Storage Tanks
Experts suspect that the issue may have been caused by water seeping into the underground storage tanks due to poor maintenance. However, authorities have yet to determine whether this was an accident or a deliberate act of fuel adulteration.
Consumer Demands and Investigation Underway
Angered by the incident, consumers have called for an immediate investigation and strict action against those responsible. Officials are expected to inspect the petrol station’s fuel storage system and take necessary legal measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
Authorities urge vehicle owners who refueled at the station to report any engine issues and await further updates as the investigation unfolds.
