Pune: PMC Issues Monsoon Health Precautions To Prevent Waterborne Diseases
27 July, 2024
With the rainy season coming in, there’s a chance that diseases spread through drinking water, which could harm people’s health. To prevent this, the health department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is asking folks to follow some precautions.
Here are the precautions recommended for the monsoon season:
– Stick to drinking pure water.
– Avoid using water from unused wells for drinking.
– Steer clear of consuming open or stale food.
– Make sure to boil and cool drinking water, keeping it covered.
– Wash your hands properly with soap after using the toilet and before eating.
– If you experience symptoms like diarrhea, loose stools, chills, or fever, address them promptly and reach out to the Pune Municipal Corporation Hospital if necessary.
– Use Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) for dehydration caused by diarrhea.
– Avoid open defecation; use toilets only.
– If you have fever, diarrhea, or jaundice, add chlorine liquid to your drinking water before consumption.
– Clean both underground and above-ground water tanks in your buildings. Fix any tap or valve leaks and maintain cleanliness around the tanks.
– Keep stored water covered and do not store it for more than five days.
– Implement a dry day once a week, where drinking water containers are emptied, washed, dried, and kept dry to prevent mosquito larvae growth.
– If there’s an outbreak, inform PMC Health clinics immediately.
