Pune: PMC Launches Seed Collection Drive; Citizens Urged To Donate Seeds Of Native Trees
Pune, June 5, 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) Garden and Tree Authority Department has launched a citywide Seed Collection Centre initiative aimed at enhancing Pune’s green cover by encouraging citizens to donate seeds of native tree species.
Under the campaign, residents are urged to collect and donate seeds of indigenous fruit-bearing and environmentally significant trees such as mango, jamun, chikoo (sapodilla), custard apple, and karvanda (Carissa carandas) instead of discarding them.

According to PMC, the seeds collected through the initiative will be used to raise saplings, which will later be planted across the city to strengthen Pune’s green wealth and biodiversity.
The seed collection drive will be conducted from June 5 to August 14, 2026. Citizens can submit seeds at the designated Seed Collection Centre set up at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje Garden, Jangli Maharaj Road, Shivajinagar, Pune 411005.
The centre will remain open daily from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, excluding public holidays.
PMC officials have appealed to environmentally conscious citizens, students, housing societies, and nature enthusiasts to actively participate in the campaign and contribute towards making Pune greener and more sustainable.
The initiative is being undertaken under the Pune Municipal Corporation’s environmental and urban greening efforts in line with the broader objective of increasing tree cover and conserving native plant species in the city.
