Pune, August 28, 2025 – In a bid to tackle rising dust pollution, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will soon require all construction sites across the city to install air quality monitoring sensors. These devices will track PM2.5 and PM10 levels in real time, with data made accessible through a public dashboard.

The decision was taken during a review meeting attended by Additional Commissioner Prithviraj B.P., City Engineer Prashant Waghmare, Environment Officer Santosh Warule, and experts from WRI India. Officials highlighted that dust emissions from ongoing construction are a growing threat to public health, often causing respiratory issues, especially during winter.

Once implemented, developers will be obligated to take corrective measures immediately if pollution levels exceed permissible limits. A dedicated PMC task force will oversee enforcement, issuing notices or initiating action against violators.

“This initiative will hold builders accountable and give citizens direct access to air quality updates,” a senior PMC official stated.

Authorities stressed that the move aims to strengthen Pune’s reputation as a livable city while ensuring public health remains a priority.
