Pune: PMC Penalises Cavalcade Properties And Maple Tower Housing Society In NIBM Annexe For Discharging Drainage Water Into Nala
Pune, November 18, 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken action against two establishments at NIBM annexe in Mohammadwadi for discharging drainage water into a canal, imposing fines of Rs 15,000 on Cavalcade Properties Pvt Ltd and Rs 5,000 on Maple Tower Housing Society. The fines were issued by the civic body’s health and sanitation department following complaints of improper waste disposal and environmental violations.
PMC also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Queens Tower society for discharging STP water into nala.
According to officials, both establishments were found releasing untreated drainage water directly into a nearby nala, contributing to environmental contamination and posing health risks to residents in the surrounding areas. The PMC stated that such practices violate municipal norms, which strictly prohibit the discharge of sewage or wastewater into natural water channels.
The issue was highlighted by local social activist Nitin Dsouza from NIBM Annexe, Mohamadwadi, who has been consistently raising concerns about civic violations in the locality. Dsouza reported the matter to the authorities after residents observed foul odour and contamination in the canal, prompting the PMC to carry out an inspection and take swift action.
This is not the first time such violations have been reported in the region. In recent years, several builders and housing societies in and around Mohamadwadi have faced penalties for similar offences, including illegal discharge of drainage water and excavation of public roads without obtaining mandatory permissions from the civic body.
Local residents have welcomed the PMC’s action, stating that stricter enforcement is needed to curb repeated violations and ensure accountability among developers and societies. They also emphasised the need for regular monitoring to prevent further environmental damage.
The PMC has reiterated that it will continue its drive to penalise establishments found flouting sanitation and environmental guidelines. Officials have urged citizens to report any such violations to help maintain cleanliness, safety, and ecological balance in the area.
