Pune: PMC To Install GPS On Garbage Vehicles For Better Waste Tracking
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has mandated the installation of GPS systems on vehicles transporting rejected and processed waste from its solid waste management plants. This decision follows a recent incident where residents filed a police complaint after discovering PMC vehicles transporting waste from Yawat to a company in Daund. The civic administration struggled to trace the origin of the waste.
Sandeep Kadam, head of PMC’s solid waste management department, stated, “While PMC garbage vehicles already have GPS, we are now requiring all vehicles handling rejected and processed waste to have this system.”
PMC plans to submit a formal proposal for the GPS installation to the municipal commissioner for approval, aiming to improve tracking and prevent future issues with waste management oversight.
