Pune, May 8, 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Standing Committee has directed large housing societies across the city to install and maintain sewage treatment plants (STPs), warning that strict action will be taken against those failing to comply with civic regulations.

According to the Unified Development Control and Promotion Regulations (UDCPR), residential societies with more than 100 flats are required to have their own sewage treatment systems.

Standing Committee Chairman Shreenath Bhimale said the civic administration has been instructed to strictly implement the rule and ensure that existing STPs in housing societies are functioning effectively.

He stated that societies not complying with the mandatory STP norms could face action from the municipal corporation.

In another key decision, the standing committee addressed complaints regarding property tax penalties imposed on illegal residential properties. The committee directed the PMC property tax department to stop levying triple tax penalties on unauthorised homes measuring less than 1,000 square feet and instead charge only the regular property tax amount.

The committee also instructed officials to resolve pending complaints related to incorrect tax assessments.

The issues were raised during the standing committee meeting by BJP leaders Rupali Dhavade and Vishal Dhanwade.
