Pune, November 27, 2024: Over 3,000 residents of Parge Nagar in Kondhwa are facing growing challenges related to uncollected garbage, abandoned vehicles, and lack of proper infrastructure. Frustrated with the deteriorating conditions, the residents have decided to take matters into their own hands by raising their concerns with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), the Pune City Traffic Police, and the Regional Transport Office (RTO).

On Tuesday, residents gathered for a meeting with officials from PMC and the traffic division of Pune’s Kondhwa area, addressing multiple pressing issues that have made their neighborhood increasingly unclean, unsafe, and unsightly.

A major concern raised was the widespread garbage dumping along key stretches from Mayfair Eleganza to Welcome Hall, City Lawns, and Merryland School. “The whole area has become an eyesore. With no authority overseeing the cleanliness or addressing parking issues, we, the residents, decided to take matters into our hands,” said Renita Iyer, a resident of Alcon Signare.

Sahil Shaikh from Kumar Palmgrove echoed these concerns, stating, “Our consistent efforts to push the PMC have brought some relief, but we now demand strong action. It’s high time PMC cracks down on violators. We need our clean, green, and safe Parge Nagar back.”

The residents have called for several measures to restore order in the area, including the installation of CCTV cameras, penalties for those violating garbage disposal rules, and greater vigilance in monitoring chronic dumping spots. “We need clean streets, proper footpaths, signboards instructing people to dispose of garbage responsibly, and night-duty personnel from PMC’s health and sanitation staff to control illegal dumping,” said Shaikh.

Additionally, PMC has begun sending dumpers to clear garbage, while the RTO has been called upon to address the issue of abandoned vehicles. Residents like Juliana Vongeyer, a resident from Eisha Bella Vista, expressed frustration at the state of the roads, particularly the stretch from Mayfair Eleganza to Raviraj Astria. “It’s a horrible sight. PMC must do something about this mess. We need Pune to be clean and green,” she said. The residents of Parge Nagar are determined to continue pressing authorities for immediate solutions to restore cleanliness, security, and order in their neighborhood.
