Pune : PMC's E-Charging Station's Revenue Disappoints: Only 29 Locations Operational
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) finds itself facing setbacks in its ambitious project to introduce e-charging stations across the city, aimed at accommodating the increasing number of electric vehicles.
Despite initiating a tender process and planning to establish charging stations at 83 locations in collaboration with a private entity, the PMC has struggled to meet its targets. As of January’s conclusion, only 29 out of the intended 53 charging stations have been set up.
Concerns regarding revenue generation also loom large over the project, with the PMC having collected a mere Rs 16,298 over the past three and a half months through these charging stations. Notably, the PMC had allocated strategic locations to the selected company rent-free for eight years, in exchange for which the company was expected to contribute 50% of the generated income to the PMC.
Despite the contracted company being obligated to establish 83 charging stations, the current count remains significantly lower at 29. Charging rates at most stations stand at Rs 19 per unit, plus 18% GST. The company is now analyzing daily income and has submitted detailed financial reports covering revenue, electricity consumption, additional expenses, net profit, and the revenue share between PMC and the company from November to February 14.
Srinivas Kandul, the chief engineer of PMC’s electricity department, stated, “The company reported a revenue of Rs 1,03,855 from its charging services between November 1 and February 14. After allocating Rs 71,250 towards electricity bills and other expenses, the net profit amounts to Rs 32,596. Out of this, Rs 16,298 will be contributed to the PMC. However, recent discussions within the company have highlighted concerns regarding the relatively low revenue share from the charging stations.”
