Pune | May 17, 2025 — In an effort to improve efficiency and reduce daily disputes, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) has urged passengers to purchase bus tickets immediately upon boarding — preferably at the bus stop — rather than relying solely on mobile ticketing.

The directive comes amid rising concerns over delays in the issuance of e-tickets through PMPML’s mobile app and frequent altercations between passengers and conductors over small change.

While the mobile ticketing system was introduced to promote cashless travel and reduce friction during fare collection, several users have reported delays due to poor network connectivity, leading to confusion during inspections and checks.

To address this, PMPML has asked passengers to use the electronic ticketing machines operated by conductors if mobile app delays occur. Officials emphasized that excuses related to pending transactions will no longer be accepted during ticket inspections.

“We introduced the mobile ticketing app for faster service and convenience,” said Nitin Narvekar, Joint Managing Director of PMPML. “However, many commuters aren’t buying tickets from their boarding points, which creates enforcement challenges.”

Ticket inspectors and supervisory staff have observed a spike in cases where passengers claim they are waiting for their e-tickets to be generated, often resulting in conflicts and delays.

PMPML officials have assured that further improvements to the app’s backend are underway to reduce dependency on network conditions. Until then, passengers are advised to follow proper ticketing procedures to avoid fines or inconvenience.

The move highlights the transport body’s commitment to ensuring a seamless travel experience, while balancing its push for digitization with the practical challenges on the ground.
