Pune: PMRDA Commissioner Directs Immediate Measures To Resolve Hinjewadi Issues, Sets June 15 Completion Target
Pimpri, June 11, 2025: Administrative bodies at various levels must fulfill their responsibilities efficiently and prioritize resolving civic issues. However, residents of the Hinjewadi region continue to face several difficulties.Â
In view of addressing these civic concerns, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase conducted a review meeting at the Akurdi office on Wednesday (June 11). He directed all concerned administrative departments to prioritize works that would bring immediate relief to citizens. The meeting was attended by officials from various departments along with public representatives.
In areas like Hinjewadi, Maan, and Marunji, rainwater accumulation at multiple locations is causing severe inconvenience to motorists and residents alike. These problems primarily stem from the obstruction of natural water flows in streams and drains. PMRDA Commissioner Dr. Mhase instructed all administrative bodies to work collectively to clean the streams and drains and immediately remove debris from the roads.
He also noted that ongoing metro and other infrastructure projects in the Hinjewadi area are causing traffic disruptions. The concerned agencies have been asked to complete these projects within the stipulated timeline. To address civic issues more effectively, Dr. Mhase emphasized the need for inter-departmental coordination and directed that all visible and impactful tasks should be completed by June 15.
Present at the meeting:
MLA Shankar Mandekar, PMRDA’s Director of Development and Permissions Sunil Marale, Chief Engineer Rinaz Pathan, Deputy Commissioner of Land and Property Department Himmat Kharade, Deputy Collector of Unauthorized Construction and Demolition Dept. Dr. Deepti Suryawanshi-Patil, and representatives from MIDC, MPCB, Pune ITCT Metro Rail Ltd., Zilla Parishad, MSEDCL, Hinjewadi Industrial Association, PCMC, Public Works Department, local companies, housing society members, MSETCL, Traffic Police, and Sarpanchs from the gram panchayats of Hinjewadi, Maan, and Marunji.
Strict Action to be Taken Against Those Obstructing Natural Drains in Hinjewadi, Maan, and Marunji
PMRDA Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase announced that action will be taken against individuals or entities blocking the natural flow of water in the drains of Hinjewadi, Maan, Marunji, and surrounding areas. A survey will be conducted to assess whether the constructions around these drains are legal or unauthorized. A report is to be submitted urgently, and illegal structures will be demolished immediately.
Additionally, some companies have been found to be releasing contaminated water into the drains, causing health and environmental hazards for residents. Commissioner Mhase ordered an investigation into such companies. If found violating government norms or operating without proper authorization, strict actions will be taken, including cutting off their water and electricity supply.
