Pune police have arrested a man and booked four others, including a woman, for allegedly duping a New Sangvi resident of Rs 10.5 lakh under the guise of providing a multi-utility vehicle (MUV) at a discounted rate. The incident occurred in December 2023, with the accused failing to fulfill their promise.

According to Wakad police, the arrested individual and his associates operated from the Kalewadi Phata area, where they established a showroom purportedly selling vehicles from various companies. At least 45 victims have come forward, reporting similar fraudulent schemes.

The complainant, a transport operator, fell victim to the scam after being promised an MUV at a reduced price with expedited delivery. Subsequently, he paid the sum of Rs 10.5 lakh in December last year, only to realize that the promised vehicle was never delivered.

Upon inquiry, the victim was provided with a fake screenshot indicating that the amount had been refunded. Investigations are ongoing, with efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects underway.
