Pune Police Launch Advanced Command Control Centre, Enhance Surveillance At Bopdev Ghat
Pune, August 9, 2025: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Friday inaugurated several key projects for Pune’s police force, including the state-of-the-art Integrated Command and Control Centre and the Bopdev Ghat CCTV Surveillance Project.
Speaking at the launch, Fadnavis highlighted the city’s need for a comprehensive CCTV network equipped with modern technology. He said Pune now has one of the most advanced surveillance systems in the country, featuring night vision, 360-degree coverage, and AI-enabled cameras capable of tracking suspects by scanning vast amounts of video footage within minutes.
“This smart system instantly alerts the control room if any camera stops working, ensuring quick repairs within 24 hours and maintaining at least 95% operational coverage. It will significantly strengthen law enforcement, traffic monitoring, crime detection, and crowd management,” he added.
Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar explained that the Integrated Command and Control Centre forms the core of the city’s CCTV network. It integrates live feeds from over 432 Smart City cameras, around 3,000 Pune Metro cameras, and footage from bus stops, malls, and other public locations. Work is also underway to connect private security cameras across the city to this system.
The Bopdev Ghat CCTV Project was initiated after the October 2024 gang rape incident at the location. Police identified 22 vulnerable “black spots” across Pune, with Bopdev Ghat being the first to get full surveillance coverage. The installation includes AI-enabled CCTV cameras, floodlights, high-quality speakers, emergency call boxes, and a dedicated police help centre for round-the-clock monitoring. The project also involved laying a 5 km power line and 10 km fibre optic cable in the area.
Fadnavis announced that the remaining 21 identified spots will receive similar security upgrades within two months. The event also saw the inauguration of advanced mobile surveillance vans acting as “mini control rooms” equipped with drones and AI analytics, as well as the new Chandan Nagar police station building. Additionally, foundation ceremonies were conducted for upcoming police stations in Nanded City, Loni Kalbhor Kharadi, and Kondhwa.
The ceremony concluded with the felicitation of police officers and social activists working on Mission Parivartan, a rehabilitation initiative for juveniles in conflict with the law.
