A calm lion’s unexpected appearance on Junagadh’s Bilkha Road brought traffic to a halt before a daring man chased it away with a stick.
Residents witnessed an extraordinary and nerve-tingling moment on August 5 when a lion was spotted on the busy Bilkha Road near Junagadh. The sighting, captured in a 17-second viral video, showed the “King of the Jungle” standing calmly by the roadside, gazing intensely at the gathering crowd and moving vehicles. The unusual encounter brought traffic to a standstill as some motorists stopped in awe while others, fearful of the wild predator, quickly turned their vehicles away.
In the footage, the lion does not make any aggressive move toward bystanders. Instead, it remains perfectly still, locking eyes with onlookers. The tense calm is broken when a man, armed with a stick, strides toward the lion, shouting “Hurrr-hat!” in an attempt to scare it off. Startled, the lion turns away and retreats toward the nearby forest.
Bilkha Road lies adjacent to the Gir National Park boundary, making lion sightings in the region relatively common. However, seeing one so close to the bustling heart of the city remains a rare and electrifying experience for locals. The video, posted by the X (formerly Twitter) account @mprsd5, has since been viewed thousands of times, with social media buzzing over the incident.
