Pune, June 19, 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has completed the repair and strengthening of the key bridge across the Mutha River below Khadakwasla Dam, providing a major relief to residents of Khadakwasla, Shivane, and nearby areas.

The project, undertaken at a cost of approximately ₹2 crore, is expected to extend the bridge’s lifespan by 10 to 15 years and ensure safer transportation for thousands of daily commuters.

The 160-metre-long and 6.5-metre-wide bridge, which connects Khadakwasla and Shivane, was originally constructed in 1965. With the structure being over five decades old, PMC conducted a structural audit that revealed a decline in the bridge’s concrete strength, prompting the need for urgent repairs.

Considering the bridge’s location downstream of Khadakwasla Dam, where strong water currents continuously impact the structure’s pillars, special strengthening measures were implemented. The bridge piers were reinforced through jacketing, while damaged concrete sections were removed and restored using advanced polymer mortar technology.

To further enhance the structural stability of the bridge, epoxy grouting was carried out on both the bridge deck and supporting pillars. Additional works included repairs to the abutments and wing walls, installation of chain-link fencing on both sides of the bridge, resurfacing of the roadway, and placement of directional signboards.

For improved road safety, modern W-beam crash barriers have also been installed on the Khadakwasla side of the bridge.

The repair and strengthening work, which had been underway for the past four months, was completed ahead of the monsoon season as planned by the civic administration. Following completion of the final procedures, the bridge is expected to be reopened for heavy vehicular traffic shortly.

The project was completed under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram and Additional Commissioner Prithviraj Divte, with supervision by Chief Engineer Dinkar Gojare.

With the strengthening work now complete, commuters from Khadakwasla, Shivane and surrounding areas are expected to benefit from safer and smoother travel for years to come.
