Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has issued strict orders to take action against individuals bursting firecrackers late at night to celebrate birthdays. The move follows numerous complaints from citizens and legal professionals about the disturbances caused by such celebrations.

In Pune, it has become common for groups to gather in public places like roads and chowks to celebrate birthdays. These celebrations often involve 15 to 25 youths cutting cakes, bursting firecrackers, and creating loud noise, disrupting residential areas. Some residents say this happens as often as two to three times a week.

Complaints to the police helpline (112) often go unanswered or result in officers dispersing the crowd without penalties. Many citizens expressed frustration, alleging that youths from nearby slums are the main perpetrators. “If we question them, they threaten us,” one resident said. Despite complaints, no significant action has been taken so far.

In response, Commissioner Kumar has directed increased police patrolling in affected areas. Additional Police Inspector S S Nikam from the Sinhagad Road area confirmed the new measures. “If we find groups bursting firecrackers late at night and causing disturbance, strict action will be taken,” he said.

Residents hope these steps will end the growing nuisance and restore peace in their neighborhoods. For now, the Pune police are ramping up enforcement to address the issue.
