Pune car crash: Last rites of deceased performed; parents seek justice
The last rites of Ashwini Koshta and Anish Awadiya, both 25, who were killed in the car crash in Pune were performed on Tuesday. Ashwini was from Jabalpur and Anish was from Umaria. Their families are devastated by the tragic loss.
The accident occurred in Pune at 2:15 am on May 18. Ashwini and Anish were leaving a restaurant after having dinner on their bike when a high-speed Porsche, driven by a minor, hit them near Kalyani Nagar. Both died on the spot. The minor victim, who is the son of Pune builder Vishal Aggarwal, was reportedly drunk. The court granted him bail within 15 hours, asking him to write an essay on accidents.
Police have arrested Vishal Aggarwal and the bar owner and manager where the minor drank.
Ashwini was the youngest in her family, living in Sakar Hills, Jabalpur. Her family fondly called her Aashi. Her elder brother Samprit is a software engineer in Bengaluru, and their father, Suresh Koshta, works in the electricity department. Ashwini had been working at Johnson Controls. She previously worked for Amazon and visited Jabalpur for her birthday on January 14.
Anish, from Birsinghpur Pali, Umaria district, had visited home a month before the incident. He had studied and worked in Pune, and his younger brother, Devesh, also studied there. Anish had recently renovated a room at home. His family, especially his mother and grandmother, are in deep shock.
Witnesses reported the Porsche was speeding at 200 km/h. Ashwini was thrown several feet in the air, while Anish was hit by another parked car. The police arrived within 15 minutes and arrested the boys in the car, who were drunk. One boy fled the scene.
Ashwini’s family have demanded strict action against the driver and his parents, suspecting that the builder’s influence led to the quick bail. Anish’s grandfather also demanded the harshest punishment for the accused.
