Pune Rain: Tragedy Strikes Under Z Bridge, Three Die from Electric Shock While Saving Egg Bhurji Stall
Pune experienced heavy rainfall overnight, leading to significant disruption and a tragic incident in the Pulachi Wadi area. Water entered numerous houses on Sinhagad Road, with many roads resembling rivers. Despite the severe conditions, residents reported that no emergency assistance arrived, leaving many trapped.
A particularly tragic event occurred around 3 AM near the Z Bridge close to Bhide Bridge. Three individuals working at Anda Bhurji stalls attempted to move their stalls to safety as the river’s water level rose rapidly. Unfortunately, they suffered electric shocks during the process. They were taken to Sahyadri Hospital for treatment at 5 AM, but all three succumbed to their injuries.
The deceased have been identified as Abhishek Ajay Ghanekar (25), Akash Vinayak Mane (21), both residents of Pulachi Wadi, Deccan, and Shiva Jid Bahadur Parihar (18), a Nepalese laborer. The incident has sparked outrage among local residents.
Citizens expressed their frustration, stating that the area’s lights remained on despite the heavy rain, which was against standard procedure. Typically, water discharge from the river occurs in the morning, not at night. The three young men went to save their stalls fearing they would be washed away, only to be fatally electrocuted. Residents criticized the administration for what they perceived as negligence and lack of timely response.
