Pune has recorded highest rainfall ever in July since last 24 hours. The relentless rain has led to significant water accumulation in low-lying areas across the city, severely disrupting daily life. Pune Municipal Corporation has been receiving umpteen rescue calls from residents to attend water logging, tree falling incidents across the city. The low lying areas have been on high alert since yesterday as the water levels grew faster since heavy downpours.
In response to the weather conditions, the District Collector and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, Dr. Suhas Diwase, has ordered the closure of schools in the Khadakwasla area, Pune city, Bhor, Velha, Maval, Mulshi, and Haveli taluka for July 25.
Water has entered 15 societies on Sinhagad Road in Ekta Nagri, leaving many residents stranded. Rescue operations are underway, with boats being deployed to evacuate those trapped in the flooded areas.

Local residents have expressed frustration over the delays in receiving assistance, as the heavy rainfall has turned roads into rivers and inundated numerous homes. Despite the severe conditions, some areas reported that lights remained on, contrary to standard procedure during such weather events.
The weather department has warned of more heavy rain in Pune city and the surrounding Ghat areas in the coming hours. Authorities are urging all residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.
The district administration is closely monitoring the situation and has deployed additional resources to aid in rescue and relief efforts.
