Pune: Ramtekdi Industrial Estate Struggles With Years-Long Garbage Crisis, Locals Urge PMC Action

Despite years of complaints and site inspections, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has failed to provide a lasting solution.

For over six to seven years, vacant plots in the area — originally intended for commercial buildings — have become unofficial dumping grounds. Overflowing waste often blocks roads, spreads foul odours, and creates severe hygiene concerns, especially with the monsoon season approaching.
PMC has acknowledged the problem and stated that dumping mainly happens at night. While no fines have been issued yet, cleanup operations and inspections are ongoing.
A joint meeting with estate representatives has led to new proposals — such as installing a security gate and increasing night patrols — to curb illegal dumping.
Residents’ Concerns:
* Serious health risks due to unhygienic conditions
* Disruption of industrial operations and employee well-being
* Likely worsening of the situation with the onset of monsoon
