Police reveal no forced entry or assault; woman admits to emotional distress

PUNE – In a dramatic turn of events, Pune police have revealed that the alleged rape complaint filed by a 22-year-old data scientist earlier this week was not based on facts. The woman had initially claimed that a man, posing as a delivery agent, entered her rented Kondhwa flat, sprayed a chemical on her, and raped her on Wednesday evening. However, a detailed investigation has now contradicted these claims.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) recorded the woman’s statement on Saturday, after police noticed multiple inconsistencies in her account during questioning. According to senior police officials, the woman kept changing her version of the events, prompting further scrutiny.

Kondhwa police had initially registered an FIR on Thursday under charges of rape, voyeurism, and criminal intimidation. The woman, who holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree and works with an IT company in Kalyaninagar, had alleged that the supposed delivery agent demanded her signature on a delivery sheet before attacking her.

However, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar confirmed on Friday that investigations, including the review of extensive CCTV footage, showed no signs of forced entry or chemical assault. He further stated that the man in question was not a stranger, but someone the woman already knew and had voluntarily invited to her flat.

“It became evident that there was an attempt to mislead the investigation. The selfie found on her phone, which she initially claimed was taken without her consent, was in fact taken with her knowledge and later cropped,” Kumar said.

When questioned about the reasons behind her complaint, the woman reportedly admitted to filing the false accusation due to emotional distress and mental instability.

As of now, police have not confirmed whether they will pursue legal action against the woman for filing a false report. Authorities are still examining several aspects of the case before arriving at a final decision.
