Pune: Residents Raise Alarm Over Unsafe Conditions Due to Negligent Construction in Kalyani Nagar's Dmart Lane

Pune, June 2, 2025:

Residents of Dmart Lane in Kalyani Nagar are grappling with hazardous conditions caused by ongoing construction activity that has reportedly damaged the road and created serious safety and health risks for the community. The issue, which escalated on Saturday, May 31, has triggered growing frustration over the lack of response from civic authorities.

According to residents, trucks transporting mud and sand from construction sites spill material along the stretch daily, leaving the road cluttered with debris. This spillage has led to significant surface damage, making it increasingly unsafe for motorists and pedestrians alike.

“Driving a two-wheeler here is like crossing an obstacle course,” said one resident. The uneven road surface has raised concerns about accidents, particularly involving two-wheelers and smaller vehicles. Pedestrians — especially senior citizens and children — are also at risk, as they are forced to navigate narrow, debris-laden paths.

Adding to the concerns, residents complain that their repeated appeals to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) have gone unanswered. No regular inspections or corrective measures have been carried out so far.

Beyond road safety, the area is also facing environmental issues. Dust and loose particles from the construction sites have worsened air quality, while unchecked runoff has the potential to clog drains and increase flooding risks during the monsoon.

Frustrated locals are now demanding urgent action from the PMC. “How long must we suffer before the authorities step in?” questioned a resident. The community is calling for strict enforcement of construction regulations and immediate repairs to restore safe access through the lane.
