Reducing congestion and enhancing connectivity across the region.

The Pune Ring Road is a 172 km long express highway designed to alleviate traffic congestion by allowing vehicles from various parts of the state to bypass the city without entering its arterial roads. This project is strategically divided into two parts: the Eastern Alignment (Part-1 and Part-2) and the Western Alignment.

The Ring Road will connect various villages and cities, including Maval, Khed, Haveli, Purandar, Bhor and Mulshi, enhancing connectivity and accessibility across the region. By easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity, the Pune Ring Road project holds immense promise for Pune and its neighbouring areas, unlocking new development opportunities, decongesting urban areas, and spurring economic growth.

Route: Extends from Urse (on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway) to Solu (along the Alandi-Markal road), then from Solu to Sortapwadi (on the Pune-Solapur road).

  • Route: Connects Urse (Mumbai-Pune Expressway) to Varve Budruk (on the Satara road).
  • Initial Cost: Estimated at ₹12,176 crore in September 2021.

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) was appointed as the development authority for the project in 2016, with the expectation of diverting heavy vehicular traffic and reducing congestion in Pune city while speeding up the development of the suburbs.

The project will feature ten tunnels and parallel flyovers, significantly reducing travel time from the Pune-Mumbai Expressway to Nashik, Solapur, Satara, Ahmednagar and Aurangabad by at least 1.5 hours.
