The 42,000 crore is set for completion in 2027

The much-awaited 170-km Pune Ring Road project, aimed at reducing traffic congestion in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, will begin in the second week of February 2025. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has set a completion deadline of June 2027.

The Rs 42,000-crore project will divert heavy vehicles from Nashik, Solapur, Satara, and Ahilyanagar, preventing them from entering city roads. It will also integrate Metro and BRTS routes to strengthen public transport.

Project Breakdown:

– Western Ring Road (69 km): Starts at Urse and connects to Pune-Satara Road, handling traffic from the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and Satara.

– Eastern Ring Road (101 km): Connects major highways, including roads from Solapur, Nashik, and Ahmednagar.

Both parts are divided into 12 sections, with all tenders issued to ensure simultaneous construction.

Land Acquisition and Infrastructure:

– Western section: 99% land acquired.

– Eastern section: 86% land acquired, with full acquisition expected by March 2025.

– Key features: 15 tunnels and major bridges, including one over Khadakwasla Dam.

– Reduced congestion: Heavy vehicles will bypass city roads.

– Faster travel: Trucks and commercial vehicles will move efficiently.

– Economic boost: Improved connectivity to industrial zones like Talegaon and Chakan.

Officials say the Ring Road will significantly ease Pune’s traffic woes, making travel faster and more efficient.
