Speeding tempo driver crashes into group near Uruli Kanchan; accused arrested by police

A tragic road accident took place late on the night of July 2 at Talwade Chowk, near Uruli Kanchan on the Pune-Solapur Highway, claiming the lives of two men and injuring four others. The incident occurred when a tempo driver, allegedly speeding and driving recklessly, lost control of his vehicle and rammed into a group of people standing by the roadside.

The deceased have been identified as Mahboob Rehman Miyade (63), a resident of Sahajpur Makarvasti in Daund, and Ashok Bhimrao (25), a native of Savli, Bidar. Four other individuals Laxman Bapurao Bharti (61), Mainuddin Lalmia Tamboli (67), Vaishali Bhagwat Bansode (40), and Bhagwat Peru Bansode (40), were seriously injured in the crash and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Preliminary medical reports indicate that some of the victims sustained bone fractures.

The accused driver, Shashikant Rohidas Pawar (24) of Akluj in Solapur district, fled the scene after the accident. However, the Uruli Kanchan Police launched a swift manhunt and successfully apprehended him. He is now in custody, with formal arrest procedures underway.

An FIR has been filed under Crime No. 192/2025 at the Uruli Kanchan Police Station. The charges include sections 281, 125, 125(A), 125(B), and 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as well as sections 184 and 134/177 of the Motor Vehicles Act. The investigation is ongoing.
