Pune, July 17, 2025: In a significant step towards addressing long-standing civic challenges, members of the Mohamadwadi Undri Residents Welfare Development Foundation (MURWDF) met Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram to discuss key infrastructure issues plaguing Undri, Mohammadwadi, and NIBM Annexe.
The residents’ delegation thanked the Commissioner for giving them a patient hearing and for assuring that the most pressing concerns would be prioritised and resolved at the earliest. They highlighted how Undri and surrounding areas have suffered from inadequate civic infrastructure since their merger into the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in 2019.
Among the major issues raised were severe traffic bottlenecks caused by illegal encroachments at Mohammadwadi and Kad Nagar chowks. Road issues from Nyati Estate to Undri Marg, Kad Nagar chowk to Mohamadwadi Chowk was also raised with PMC Commissioner as it needs to free from all encroachments and also needs to be reconstructed at many points.
The presence of streetlight poles in the middle of the road at Kad Nagar chowk has further worsened safety concerns for motorists and pedestrians alike.
Residents also expressed frustration over the incomplete drainage line connections to the main sewer network, which have been pending for more than a year. This delay has resulted in frequent waterlogging and poor sanitation, posing health risks to the community.
The delegation stressed the need for installing adequate streetlights and a CCTV surveillance system in Undri, citing that the area remains poorly lit and isolated, making it unsafe, especially during late hours.
Commissioner Ram acknowledged the issues raised and assured residents that PMC would look into them on priority and initiate corrective measures.
The meeting marks a hopeful step forward for thousands of residents who have been campaigning for better amenities in one of Pune’s fastest-growing suburbs.
