PUNE: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Pune has launched a special drive to regulate tourist bus operations in preparation for the upcoming Navratri and Diwali festivals. The initiative aims to ensure passenger safety and compliance with fare regulations, as demand for travel spikes during the festive season.

Special squads will be deployed to inspect private tourist buses departing from and returning to Pune. The checks will focus on several key areas, including passenger count, safety measures, and adherence to government-approved fare limits.

Recently, a passenger traveling to Latur reported paying ₹1,000 for a ticket, which is double the usual fare. With the festival season approaching, there are concerns that prices may rise further. As per transport rules, private buses are allowed to charge up to 50% more than state transport bus fares during the festive period.

The RTO encourages passengers to report any instances of overcharging or unsafe conditions during their travels. This drive aims to protect travelers from unfair practices and ensure that all tourist buses operate in accordance with the law.
