The Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Pune has said that around eighteen taxi aggregator companies, including Redbus and Rapido, are illegal. The RTO has also requested to the Transport Commission to shut the companies’ websites and apps.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Sanjeev Bhor, Deputy Commissioner, RTO Pune, said “These companies are illegal as they do not have permissions to operate. What we have done is that we have informed the Transport Commissioner office, after receiving a lot of complaints, about these companies being illegal & to inform the Pune Cyber Crime to take relevant action against these. However, Ola & Uber are not included in these as already we have given notices to them and an RTA meeting will be conducted on Monday regarding this. So, as of now, we can’t say that Ola and Uber are illegal & shutting down their operations. Of a cab aggregator company called Cab-E, we have detained 9 vehicles yesterday (7th March).”

As per further information, these businesses were using their websites and applications to conduct business without the necessary licenses. The RTO declared its intention to close these companies’ websites and apps in response to persistent demands from cab unions.
