Pune runner completes Dehradun – Dhanulti run in 10 hours at 7600 feet

Shajan Samuel, a 45 year old resident of Pune’s Viman Nagar area recently completed the most sought after Garhwal Run (74 kms) elevation gain of 7,600 feet above sea level from Dehradun to Dhanulti in 10.49 hours & qualified himself for the La Ultra.

Working as Vice President at the Aptech limited, Shajan speaking more about his running schedule said, “I have been running for the last 8 years, but transitioned in to long distance running from last 3 years only. I have completed 3 (161 KM’s ) in 6 months.” 

His other accomplished feats are running 220 KM’s in 37 hour’s .

Speaking about his recent achievement he said, “On February 21, I completed the Garhwal Runs (74 kms ) elevation gain of 7,600 feet above sea level from Dehradun to Dhanulti in 10.49 hours & qualified for la ultra. La ultra is one of the most brutal ultras in the world. This is organised in the month of August, where one has to complete the run in 20 hours , with less than 50 percent oxygen, at 17,800 feet above sea level & temperatures varing from -10 degree to 40 degree. Garhwal Runs 74 km is a qualifier for 111 km category in la ultra.” 

Sharing more about running long distance he added, “Long distance running is about living in the present & not worrying too much about the future. It is about pushing past your limits & jumping to the other side of fear.”
