Pune: Sangvi’s Grand Dussehra Spectacle Attracts a Massive Crowd for Ravana Dahan
Sangvi, October 13, 2024: The Mahabhondla and Ravana Dahan ceremony, organized by Late Laxmanbhau Jagtap Mitra Parivar on the occasion of Vijayadashami, saw overwhelming participation and enthusiasm from the residents of Pimple Gurav, Sangvi, and Pimpri-Chinchwad. Over 100,000 citizens gathered to witness the symbolic burning of the effigy of Ravana, representing ego, on Saturday, October 12, at the PWD Ground in Sangvi.
The event began at 5 PM and lasted until midnight, starting with a lamp-lighting ceremony followed by floral tributes to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Goddess Tulja Bhavani, and the late MLA Laxmanbhau Jagtap. Additionally, respects were paid to the late Padma Vibhushan industrialist, Ratan Tata.

The highlight of the evening was the Mahabhondla program for women, where several cultural groups including Shalinitai Group, Parampara Group, and Anubhuti Group, performed Gondhali folk dances, celebrating Mangalagaur. Other groups such as Donated Society Group and Navdurga Mahila Mandal presented Ras Garba performances. Mansi Bhagwat from Mayur Dance Academy showcased a Kathak recital based on the Ramayana, which she had previously performed in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Dance artists, winners of the reality show “Dam Dama Dum,” presented a thematic dance on Tanaji Malusare’s valor titled “The Fort is Captured, but the Lion is Lost.”
All participating women’s groups were given special gifts by the organizers in appreciation.
The event was graced by Anup Singh Thakur, the actor portraying Sambhaji Maharaj in the upcoming film “Dharamrakshak Mahaveer Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj,” alongside the film’s director Dada Patil and actress Shraddha Shinde. The trailer for the movie was shown, and the crowd responded with chants of “Jai Shivaji Maharaj” and “Jai Sambhaji Maharaj.”
Adding to the entertainment, actors Bharat Shinde, Rambhau Jagtap, and Subhash Madne from the popular YouTube series “Chandal Choukadyachya Karamati” performed a comedic skit based on a village Gram Panchayat meeting, which left the audience in splits.
BJP city president Shankar Jagtap, speaking on the occasion, expressed his gratitude, saying, “The massive turnout at this event is a testament to the love and support that the people of Pimple Gurav, Sangvi, and Pimpri-Chinchwad have for our Jagtap family. The same affection that was showered on the late Laxmanbhau will continue for us. I assure you that we will never break your trust.”
The event concluded with the remote-controlled burning of a 70-foot Ravana effigy by Shankar Jagtap, amid chants of “Jai Shri Ram” from the crowd.
