Pune-Solapur Highway To Get 36.5-km Double-Decker Flyover; Magarpatta Bridge To Be Demolished
Pune, July 17, 2026: Commuters on the Pune-Solapur Highway can expect significant relief from chronic traffic congestion as authorities have unveiled an ambitious 36.5-km flyover project, including a double-decker flyover that will also carry the Pune Metro.
The large-scale infrastructure project aims to improve connectivity between Pune and Yavat while supporting the expansion of the city’s metro network.

Project To Be Executed In Two Phases
The proposed project will be implemented in two stages.
Phase 1: Bhairoba Nala to Hadapsar
The first phase involves the construction of a 5-km double-decker flyover between Bhairoba Nala and Hadapsar. The elevated structure will accommodate both road traffic and the Swargate-Hadapsar Metro corridor.
The Pune Metro will execute this phase at an estimated cost of ₹500 crore.
Phase 2: Hadapsar to Yavat
The second phase will see the construction of a 31.5-km six-lane elevated corridor from Hadapsar to Yavat on the Pune-Solapur National Highway.
The project, to be undertaken by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), is estimated to cost ₹5,262 crore. It is expected to reduce traffic congestion and improve road safety on one of Pune’s busiest highway stretches.
Foundation Stone To Be Laid By Nitin Gadkari
The foundation stone for the Hadapsar-Yavat elevated corridor is scheduled to be laid by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Saturday, July 18.
Construction is expected to begin next year, with the project likely to take four to five years to complete.
Magarpatta Flyover To Be Rebuilt
As part of the metro expansion, the existing Magarpatta flyover will be demolished and replaced with a new elevated structure.
According to Atul Gadgil, Project Director, Pune Metro, demolition and reconstruction work is expected to commence in January 2027, with on-ground work likely to begin within the next six to seven months.
To minimise inconvenience during construction, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Pune Metro, and the Traffic Police are jointly preparing traffic diversion and congestion management plans.
Once completed, the integrated flyover and metro corridor is expected to significantly reduce travel time and ease congestion on the Pune-Solapur Highway, one of the city’s busiest transport corridors.
