Pune : Sports teacher booked for sending obscene content to students

A 27-year-old sports teacher from Pune, Shubham Vishram Naik, has been arrested for allegedly sharing obscene videos and objectionable messages with his female students and other women on social media.

The incidents occurred between May 12, 2023, and November 16, 2023, prompting the school authorities to dismiss him and initiate an independent inquiry.

The Chatuhshrungi police took action after a 15-year-old victim lodged a complaint on Saturday, leading to Naik’s arrest and subsequent remand in police custody until Wednesday.

Naik, originally from Goa, was employed as a sports teacher. The police investigation revealed that he was actively engaged on Instagram, maintaining regular contact with girls and sending them objectionable messages.

The complainant, a school student, received explicit videos and texts from Naik, who continued the harassment even after objections were raised. The victim finally broke her silence when a teacher became aware of Naik’s actions.

While the investigation was conducted, the police also found that many girls were victimized too. The police also asked the school to conduct an investigation on their level too.

The school authorities dismissed Naik from his services and initiated an independent inquiry. The case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Parents are urged to engage in open dialogue with their children and monitor their social media activities regularly. Naik was produced before the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class and remanded to police custody till Wednesday.
