Pimpri: The issue of untreated, chemical-contaminated wastewater being discharged into the Mula-Mutha, Pavana, and Indrayani rivers in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad was raised in the Legislative Assembly. MLA Shankar Jagtap questioned the government on measures to curb pollution.

In response, Environment Minister Pankaja Munde assured strict action against industries responsible for releasing untreated wastewater into rivers. She emphasized that no industry would be allowed to discharge chemical-laden effluents without proper treatment. Any complaints regarding specific cases would be immediately investigated, and strict action would be taken against violators.

Munde reaffirmed the government’s commitment to environmental protection, stating that there would be no compromise in safeguarding natural resources. She also stressed the need for municipalities and industrial estates to strengthen sewage treatment plants to maintain river purity. Immediate steps will be taken against companies found guilty of polluting rivers, she added.
