Pune, November 30: The Indian Air Force’s (IAF) elite Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) is set to mesmerize Pune residents with a stunning aerobatic display over Air Force Station Lohegaon this afternoon around 1 PM.
After captivating audiences on Friday during the convocation ceremony of the 147th course of the National Defence Academy (NDA), the team is gearing up for another breathtaking performance.
About the Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT):
- Established in: 1996
- Aircraft: Nine Hawk Mk132 aircraft, manufactured under license by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
- Unique Status: One of the world’s few nine-aircraft aerobatic teams and the only one in Asia.
- Experience: Over 600 displays across India and international air shows in countries like China, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Singapore, and the UAE.
- Mission: To build public confidence in the IAF’s capabilities through awe-inspiring aerial manoeuvres.

The team’s performance on Friday celebrated the passing out of cadets from the 147th NDA course. The aerobatic maneuvers included loops, rolls, crosses, and inverted flying, showcasing exceptional skill and precision.
Today’s Display at Lohegaon:
Led by Group Captain Ajay Dasarathi, an NDA alumnus (108th course, Lima Squadron), the SKAT team will execute dazzling aerobatic maneuvers. Key highlights include:
- High-speed formation flying.
- Thrilling stunts like loops and inverted rolls.
- Signature formations featuring synchronized aerobatic precision.
Team Composition:
- Leader: Group Captain Ajay Dasarathi (Su-30 MKI pilot).
- Deputy Leader: Group Captain Sidhesh Kartik.
- Pilots:
- Squadron Leaders: Jasdeep Singh, Himkhush Chandel, Ankit Vashisth, Vishnu, Diwakar Sharma, and Gaurav Patel.
- Wing Commanders: Rajesh Kajla, Arjun Patel, Kuldeep Hooda, and Allen George.
- Technical Team:
- Led by Wing Commander Abhimanyu Tyagi, with Squadron Leader Sandeep Dhayal and Flight Lieutenant Manil Sharma.
